Grand Trunk Railway Collection
Materials in the collection deal with the lawsuit brought against the Grand Trunk Railway following a fire on June 17, 1862, in the village of Norton Mills.
Harold D. Newton Papers
The Harold D. Newton Papers contain two diaries and four letters written by Newton, as well as newspaper clippings. All the material refers to the participation of Company K of the First Vermont Infantry in the Mexican-American encounter of 1916. American troops were sent to Eagle Pass, Texas in June 1916, but never crossed the border or participated in any action before returning to Vermont in October of the same year.
Harris W. Soule Papers
The Harris W. Soule Papers are made up almost entirely of materials relating to his book, Northwoods Tales and Unusual Recipes. Included are manuscripts, typescripts and printer's galleys of the work, as well as correspondence with publishers, prospective buyers and reviewers.
Hayden Carruth Papers
The Hayden Carruth Papers contain correspondence, writings, and various types of personal papers dating from 1897-2009. These materials document Carruth's childhood in Connecticut and New York, his early career in publishing, his work with James Laughlin and New Directions, and his teaching career at Syracuse University. The collection also extensively documents his writing career, primarily as a poet, but also as a critic and essayist.
Henry A. Bailey Collection
The collection contains correspondence, essays by Bailey, legal briefs and notes, newspaper clippings, and a large body of title abstracts.
Henry Hitchcock Letters
The collection contains letters from Henry Hitchcock to his friend John Norton Pomeroy in Burlington, Vermont. Hitchcock was a Vermonter who immigrated to Alabama and built a successful law and business career; he became Alabama's first Secretary of State, first Attorney General, and Chief Justice. Pomeroy was a lawyer and politician who worked with George Perkins Marsh to erect a monument to Ethan Allen in Burlington.
Henry J. Gramling Papers
Collection consists of correspondence from Gramling to his wife for a period before they were married then later, for a period when he was in training and serving overseas during World War I. He did not see any combat action.
Henry Lewis Chase Papers
Henry Lewis Chase was born on September 9, 1832 in Westford, VT, attended Andover Theological Seminary, and was a congregational minister. The collection consists of correspondence from family and friends from the dates of December 10, 1860 to September 25, 1891.
