 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

This subseries is comprised of records created by the Senator's staff during the course of his 2004 campaign for Senate. Leahy kicked off his 2004 campaign on July 1, which was led by his campaign manager Carolyn Dwyer. In his re-election bid, Leahy pledged to get more jobs for Vermont, protect the state’s environment, and restore America’s place in the world. Leahy easily won in the Democratic primary against challenger Craig Hill with over 90% of the vote. In the general election, Hill faced Leahy again, this time representing the Green Party. Leahy also faced candidates from the Marijuana and Liberty Union parties, as well as an Independent. Jack McMullen was the Republican candidate, this time winning his party’s candidacy, as opposed to his unsuccessful bid against Fred Tuttle in 1998. Leahy was reelected to a sixth U.S. Senate term with 70.6% of the vote.
