6.G. 2010 Campaign Files, 1988-2010, bulk: 2006-2010

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

This subseries is comprised of records created by the Senator's staff during the course of his 2010 campaign for Senate. Leahy’s seventh campaign focused on creating Vermont jobs, strengthening the economy, and ensuring there was a voice for Vermont in the US Senate. He also stressed the importance of his seniority that enabled him to bring federal grants into the state for growth. Leahy won easily in the Democratic primary against challenger Daniel Freilich with nearly 90% of the vote. As with his previous campaign, Leahy faced his Democratic challenger again in the general election, this time as one of three Independent candidates; he also was opposed by candidates on the U.S. Marijuana and Socialist parties, and by Republican Len Britton, who had never before run for public office and ran unchallenged in his party’s primary. Leahy was successful in his campaign, winning the vote by 64.3%.
