6.H. 2016 Campaign Files, 2005-2016, bulk: 2010-2016

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

This subseries is comprised of records created by the Senator's staff during the course of his 2016 campaign for Senate. Leahy ran his final campaign on a platform that emphasized his achievements and seniority within the U.S. Senate. Leahy was opposed by Cris Ericson in the Democratic primary, a candidate who had previously run for several statewide and Congressional positions and ran previously against Leahy on the Marijuana party ticket. As with previous contested primaries, Leahy easily won with about 90% of the vote. Ericson was Leahy’s challenger again in the general election, along with Liberty Union and Independent candidates, and Republican Scott Milne, a longtime local travel agency owner. Leahy won against his four opponents with 61.3% of the vote, winning his eighth straight election to what would be his final term in the U.S. Senate, solidifying Leahy as the longest-serving U.S. Senator in Vermont history.
