Family History
Justin Bugbee (1829-1912) of Pomfret, Vermont, descended from a long and distinguished line of Bugbees in New England. Justin's grandparents Abial and Hannah Harwood Bugbee settled in Pomfret in 1788, raising nine children. Succeeding generations were equally prolific. Justin married Abbie M. Dana (1832- 1912) in 1862, and the couple had nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Employed as a carpenter, Justin Bugbee worked in the winter months as a teacher in Pomfret and nearby towns. His first-born son, Dana Justin Bugbee (1862- ) adopted his fathers habit of keeping detailed diaries.
