Scope and Content

Materials in the collection deal with the lawsuit brought against the Grand Trunk Railway following a fire on June 17, 1862, in the village of Norton Mills. Claimants alleged the fire, which destroyed a saw-mill and damaged other properties, was started by sparks from the railway's engine. The Collection, arranged chronogically, contains legal papers, correspondence, and memoranda pertaining to the Grand Trunk Company's legal defense.
