Biographical Note
Earls S. Kinsley worked as a page boy in the Vermont House of Representatives in 1880. There, under Govenor Roswell Farnham, Kinsley enjoyed the acquaintance of members of the legislature and as a page boy "became ambitious for political advancement." Letters of endorsement were presented and in 1881 Kinsley received an assignment as a page in the United States Senate with Senator George F. Edmunds. This appointment continued from December 1881 through four regular and two special sessions during the 47, 48 and 49th Congress.
Working under Captain Isaac Bassett, assistant doorkeeper of the Senate, Kinsley was told of the great statesmen that Captain Bassatt had known during his fifty years of employment there. Kinsley himself became friends with the President, Vice President, congressmen, senators, governors and other statesmen, and throughout his life maintained contact with them.
Kinsley spent nearly twenty-five years as Republican National Chairman from Vermont and resided on his farm Deermont located at the base of Pico Peak in Rutland County,Vt. Around 1929, Kinsley acted as broker for the United States Shipping Board Merchant Fleet.
