Ph.D. in 1941 from Teachers College, Columbia University

1925-1927: rural school teacher in Washington County, Kansas
1930-1936: high school science teacher in Concordia, Kansas and Manhattan, Kansas
1938-1941: Associate in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education at Teachers College, Columbia University
1941-1946: Assistant and Associate Professor of Education, University of Illinois (with time off for service in the Naval Reserve, 1942-1946)
1946-1948: Associate Professor of Education, Teachers College, Columbia University
1948-1953: Professor of Education, University of Illinois
1953-1973: Berenson Professor of Human Relations, Boston University
