Scope and Content Note
The Fred C. Koerner Surveyor Records document Koerner's work output. The material is arranged by type. Files and field notes are presented alphabetically by client or project name. Maps are sorted by the number assigned at their creation and listed with the project title; client name and location (city or street) are provided when available. Financial and internal recordkeeping material is not present in the collection.
Clients included both private individuals or families and large corporations including schools and colleges as well as projects for General Electric, IBM, New England Telephone and Telegraph (Net&T). Water and sewer department plans are present for some towns surrounding Burlington, Vermont.

Historical Note
Frederick Carl Koerner was born in 1922 in Rochester, New York to Fred C. Koerner (a civil engineer) and Marie (O'Keefe) Koerner (a housewife). He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, studying civil engineering. He graduated in 1948 and later earned a Master of Arts degree. He taught in the Engineering department at the University of Vermont for four years in the early 1950s and worked as a civil engineer at his own firm in Burlington for 40 years.
He was also active in civic affairs, serving on local and regional planning commissions, the state Board of Land Surveyors, and on the select board of the Village of Shelburne, where he lived.
He died in 1992. At that time the family consisted of wife, Patricia Carson (1925-2002), 3 sons (Frederick, Tom, and John), and 3 grandchildren.
