Biographical/Historical note

The Lake Mansfield Trout Club is a private fishing club in Stowe, Vermont. The club was founded in 1899 by Orlo Luce and Mark Lovejoy on land leased by Charles E. Burt, Frank O. Burt, and Plummer Pratt. These men formed a club by recruiting several other members, who each bought a share of stock for $50. The original members built a dam to create Lake Mansfield on the land along with a clubhouse. The dam and clubhouse have both been rebuilt or remodeled several times. Membership is by application and members are required to buy stock. The mission remains a fishing club, though the club is also used for other recreational purposes, such as use of the hiking trails surrounding it. The club is run by a board of directors.
