Mary B. Maher Papers
Scope and Contents
Collection consists of correspondence, memos, reports, legislation, handwritten notes, and other printed materials documenting Maher's time as state representative for South Burlington. Correspondence is the predominant material type and comes from both government and civilian sources with some from the latter group relating to topics covered in the legislative papers series, in particular regarding motorcycle helmet laws and public education funding.

Biographical Note
Mary Barbara Maher served in the Vermont House of Representatives as a representative for South Burlington from 1974-1982. Prior to that, she served as chair of the South Burlington Planning Commission after being a member since 1971. Her most notable moments as a representative include performing the first civil union in the state of Vermont and fighting to eliminate straight ticket voting. Maher retired from public service in 2006.
