About

Finding aids provide information about the manuscripts, photographs, ephemera and reference files in the Vermont Manuscripts, the University Archives, and the St. Johnsbury Archives Collaborative. Finding aids describe a collection and the person or organization that created it and contain a list of the collection’s content.

Some collections are housed in Special Collections and can be used any time that we are open. However, many larger collections are stored off-site. Please contact us at least 48 hours in advance so that we have sufficient time to retrieve material for you.

Vermont Manuscript Collections

Manuscript collections include personal papers, account books, diaries, scrapbooks and church, school, town, military, court and organizational records dating from the 1770s to the present. The collection is especially strong in the following areas: politics, literature, architecture, social history, religion, education, theater and music, business and labor, transportation, and land surveys.

University Archives

The University Archives documents the history of the University of Vermont. The University Archives collects records of administrative and academic units, papers of faculty and administrators, publications, photographs, and audiovisual material and makes them available to the UVM community and researchers. Most collections are available for research, but access to some collections may be limited by institutional or legal restrictions.
