Scope and Contents

This collection consists of several personal preprinted diaries, with handwritten entries from Margaret Farnsworth. The content is generally short descriptions of the weather and personal activities. There is also one diary written by Mrs. E. W. Smith, likely Margaret's mother.

Biographical Note

Margaret Smith Farnsworth was born in 1894 in Enosburg, Vermont, the daughter of Edith Loverin Smith (1872-1952) and Edward W. Smith (1869-1940), a farmer. Margaret had one brother, Carl (1899-1960).

In 1921, Margaret married Howard H. Farnsworth (1896-1998), a farmer. They lived in Enosburg, Vermont most of their lives and had two children, Harold (1923-1998) and Kathleen (1926-2010, later Masterson). Farnsworth stayed in Vermont her entire life and kept a diary for most of it before dying in 1999 at the age of 105. She is buried with her husband in East Berkshire, Vermont.
