Abstract Asa Lyon was born in Pomfret, Connecticut, on December 31, 1763, the son of Jonathan and Rebecca Maxley Lyon. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1790, Asa studied religion under Rev. Charles Backus of Somers, CT, and was ordained pastor of the Congregational church in Sunderland, Massachusetts, on October 4, 1792. Lyon moved soon thereafter to South Hero, Vermont. Abstract

Artist, lawyer, ironmonger, muscian, architect, theologian and first Episcopal Bishop of Vermont, John Henry Hopkins was born in Dublin, Ireland on January 22, 1792. The John H. Hopkins Family Papers consist largely of miscellaneous manuscripts of Bishop Hopkins and his great-granddaughter, Edith Hopkins.

Abstract

James Marsh was President of the University of Vermont from 1826-1833. The collection contains correspondence relating to university business, Marsh's inaugural address, reports to the Trustees, Marsh's accounts with the university, a copy of "An Exposition of the System of Instruction and Discipline Pursued in the University of Vermont," by the Faculty; and of UVM faculty views on reforming instruction at the university.
